Migrating from the original YES3 ExporterΒΆ

YES3 Exporter II and the original YES3 Exporter are sepa EMs. You can have both enabled at the same time. We did not want to force you to immediately upgrade to Exporter II if you already had a major workflow investment in the original, but you should migrate from the original YES3 Exporter to YES3 Exporter II as time permits (it's easy, see below). We will not be supporting the original YES3 Exporter going forward.

Key differences between YES3 Exporter II and YES3 Exporter include:

  • A new "export manager" that provides a clearer organizational structure.

  • A streamlined user interface that makes it easier to add, edit and organize export specifications.

  • Unified layout options. Now both the vertical and horizontal layouts support repeating forms and repeating events, so the "repeating" layout has been dropped. When you migrate from YES3 Exporter to YES3 Exporter II, repeating layouts will automatically be converted to vertical.

  • Removal of the separate YES3 Exporter log viewer. REDCap's built-in log viewer offers the same functionality.

  • A new option to export multiselect checkboxes as multiple columns (one column per option).

  • SAS code generation tailored to the export.

How to migrate your YES3 Exporter settings and specs to YES3 Exporter II

Migration is handled through the EM configuration. To migrate your export specifications into YES3 Exporter II, follow these steps:

  1. Open a project for which there are YES3 Exporter export specifications.

  2. Enable YES3 Exporter II for this project. You do not have to disable YES3 Exporter.

  3. Click the Manage link on the External Modules tab on the left side of the REDCap page.

  4. You should see an EM Management panel similar to the one shown below. If 'legacy' YES3 Exporter settings are detected, the configuration block for YES3 Exporter II will include a green button enticing you to transfer your settings, and a red button allowing you to opt out.

  5. Click the green button to transfer the legacy EM settings, export specifications and all logs.

That's all that's required to migrate your settings. Or at least we hope so: let us know if problems ensue.

Note: If you decline the transfer (with the red button), the option will disappear from the configuration.

To re-enable the transfer, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Configure button for YES3 Exporter II.
  2. Scroll down to the configuration setting named Legacy YE3 Exporter transfer status. The status should have an entry like 'declined'.
  3. Blank out the option, and click the Save button. The legacy transfer options should reappear.
